Duties & Responsibilities: This position is a member of a team which, when funding is received, will provide Assertive Community Treatment to individuals with severe and persistent behavioral health disorders who have been discharged from multiple or extended stays in public hospitals or who are difficult to engage in treatment. The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to provide intensive, integrated and rehabilitative crisis, treatment and community support interventions/services that are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to meet the needs of consumers in need of acute care.* The ACT team is based in Lawrenceville, GA, but will serve a three-county service area (Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton Counties).

The ACT Team Social Services Assistant for Peer Support functions as a peer specialist for adults who are referred for Assertive Community Treatment. Intensive treatment and case management services, provided as part of a comprehensive individual service plan, are designed to serve the acutely-distressed consumer in the community with no delay, preventing hospitalization, incarceration or other placements.

The Social Services Assistant, Peer Support has experience as a recipient of mental health/addictive disease services and is willing to share his/her personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight to benefit the client and the team members. Participates fully in team meetings to provide first-hand expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by consumers to have a satisfying life. Assists consumers with rehabilitation activities, provides peer counseling and consultation, and acts as a liaison with community services. Responsible to maximize consumer choice, self-determination, and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Monitors services and programs and functions as consumer advocate.

*NOTES: The entry salary noted above reflects a 20% pay supplement as a result of the requirement for immediate response to acute needs of the consumer regardless of the hour or day.

The selected candidate will be required as a part of his/her employment to attend the training sessions necessary to become a Certified Peer Specialist unless the candidate already has the certification.

DBHDD Region 2 Support Services Worker

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), Region 3 Office, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Support Services Worker.

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Regional Office, provides administrative support to the Regional Planning Board in the assigned area.

Serves as liaison between the Regional Office and the Regional Planning Board

Arrange meetings as requested
Provides meeting notices to concerned parties as requested
Attends Regional Planning Board meetings
Requests information from County Commissioners to fill vacant positions on the Regional Planning Board
Provides clear, professional communications via email, phone, letter, or facsimile
Is accountable to the Board Chair, Regional Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant to the Regional Office in all matters
Conducts clerical research to generate reports
Prepares reports for the Regional Planning Board as requested
Researches information for reports as requested or needed
Compiles information from a variety of sources, including the internet, into reports
Checks reports for accuracy and compliance with procedures
Uses computer programs in the development of documents and visual aides
Uses word processing to prepare narrative documents such as minutes or notices
Enters data as needed on spreadsheets
Assists with preparation of presentations as needed or requested
Maintains files and records
Organizes records as directed into paper and/or electronic files
Observes all confidentiality procedures and the HIPPA laws
Purges documents as directed and in compliance with HIPPA
Maintains notebooks for the Board as directed or requested
Photocopies documents and other materials
Makes handouts for meetings as needed
Makes other photocopies as directed or requested
NOTE: You must have current or previous experience as a consumer (client) of mental health, mental retardation or substance abuse services to be considered for this position.

NOTE: This is part-time position with no benefits.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one year of related experience
OR
One year of vocational/ technical school or college education
OR
One year at the lower level or at an equivalent position

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, possess the following:

Experience as a consumer (client) of mental health, mental retardation, or substance abuse services is required.

A college student with a desire to enter a health care or a social service field is preferred.

Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point required.

Must be able to use email.
